Women On The March

A message from Jo  W

As some of you may know Tricia T and I are taking part in Processions London on Sunday 10th June. This is an artwork in the colours of the suffragettes – green, white and violet. It replicates one of the many marches undertaken by various suffragist groups over the years of fighting for votes for women.
We will be marching from Hyde Park to Parliament Square. There was an interview with the organiser on Woman’s Hour today (Thursday7th June).
I’m attaching a photo of our banner (2m x 1.3m) as you might spot this in the TV coverage on Sunday. Our group will be marching in violet.processions.banner
Each member of the group designed and made a square based on a women’s rights theme.
Most members of the group met at a British Library course earlier this year called Bombs and Birth Control. This took us from Mary Wollstonecraft’s Vindications of the Rights of Women (1792) to 1918 when some women got the vote.
It was a very inspiring course led by Dr Fern Riddell and the group has remained in touch.
Fingers crossed for a dry not too windy day on Sunday.

HUE at Art Van Go – June 2018

The Old Ways: Repatterned       Fri 1st – Sat 30th June
Hue book source

HUE’s latest exhibition at Art Van Go, Knebworth, showcases a cohesive body of work that re-patterns Robert Macfarlane’s words from his bestselling book ‘The Old Ways’.

Each of the nine HUE artist has been inspired to research and respond to Macfarlane’s travels, in a wide variety of textile techniques.

The exhibition speaks strongly of our land, its colours, textures and histories and invites visitors to walk through and look closer at the re-patterned landscapes of HUE’s gallery.

Hue 2018

Also it’s the Art Van Go Summer Gathering on Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd June and a couple of the memebrs of Hue will be there for the opening of their exhibition.

Update#5 – into June 2018

Branch Meeting

Our next meeting is on Friday 8th June and features wearable textile artist Deanna Tyson. Her display materials will include kimonos which will require some modelling by volunteers…….. I know some of you just love dressing up so here’s another opportunity to have a go!

Branch Workshop

On Saturday 9th June we have  A Ribbon Embroidery Monogramme with Tanya Haines . There are still a few spaces on this workshop, showcasing a traditional skill which can also be used in contemporary work to provide texture and emphasis.

I am not a traditional style stitcher but am seriously considering making a late booking on this course as it’s always good to have another technique in my stitch toolkit – I might even manage to produce a piece of work to give my mother.

Non-members are always welcome to join us. Contact Sheila P (or use the Contact Us tab in the menu) to enquire about and book spaces.
