A quick reminder for our local annual textile event – this year’s Textile East Fair ( the replacement for Textile in Focus) will be a Swavesey Village College o Friday 16th and Saturday 17th February.
I noticed that my favourite threads will be there including The Common Thread, whose owner Tanya Haines is coming to us for a Silk Ribbonwork class in June. This would be a good opportunity to see her wonderful selection threads and ribbons and stock up.
An Invitation from Norwich Embroiderers’ Guild
On Saturday 17th March the “Artful Stitchers” are running 3 mini workshops using machine embroidery techniques for machinists new to Free Machine Embroidery (FME) or for those who would like a little more experience. The group includes Sheila Ford and was formed as an educational and exhibition group after members completed their C&G’s courses.

Following on from Diana Spencer’s talk in January, the Gilda Baron Folio will be on show at the next SOS meeting on Saturday Feb 24th. We also have some hand dyed fabric pieces, provided by Diana for us to create our own Gilda Lookalikes.
Anyone who wants to come and try Gilda’s technique is welcome to come and have-a-go in company. I will bring extra fabrics and instructions. We will also have access to the goodies on the Sales Table. Diana is hoping that some of us will send her our creations for inclusion in the Folio.
So if you haven’t got anything you urgent want to be stitching at SOS you could come and try something new. Or, if you have not started on the fabric you picked up in January, this would be a chance to get going. Just bring your usual sewing kit. You could also look up Gilda Baron online or in old Stitch magazines.
Please let me know if you think you might want to join in, so that I can bring enough materials.
Full information about the Regional Summer School is now available. This will be at Belsey Bridge Conference Centre on 14th to 16th September 2018. View or download the information from the links below.

For those interested in working with found objects and eco-dyeing, I can recommend Alice Fox’s course and suspect it will get booked up very fast.
What a lovely time we all had with Viv and Trish on Saturday. A day of stitching adorable animals from a heap of scraps.
Serene concentration interspersed with laughter, chat and cake. This was almost the best way to spend a wet February day, the only improvement would have been effective heating.
I must admit to being the only one who left with a UFO, due to my inability to decide on arms, but this has now been remedied and I now have my own Chic Sheep!
