I am ME book launch

I was asked at the beginning of the year if I would illustrate a children’s book which would be sold to raise money to help refugees. It is a book for young children, and for all of us, which illustrates a poem by Sue Hampton about a child refugee, through their own eyes, about the turmoil of leaving a war torn country and everything they have known, to enter a world of the unknown.

It is illustrated with 17 simple images in fabric and stitch with the idea that the bright colours, textures and sewn lines will gently introduce children to looking at textiles in a fresh way whilst it tells this tragic story of our time.

The book is being launched at The Berkeley, a Gallery and Winebar in Lower Kings Road, Berkhamsted on Tuesday 12th September at 6.30-10pm.

The book costs £10. All profits from the book are going to People Not Borders to fund their work with refugees.

Stashbuster Supersale

We all collect a stash of arty treasures through the years and as our interests and styles of work change we find we have lots of lovely things that we don’t use anymore. When I asked on facebook if anyone would like to join me in selling some of their treasure the replies came thick and fast. 50 people wanted to join and with only 15 tables available we have a huge waiting list of people, just like us, who want to sell their stash!

On September 30th in Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead HP1 1NR at the Parish Centre in St John’s Road, we will be holding the first Stashbuster Supersale. 12 till 3.30pm.

It sounds like we will have some fabulous things for sale including fabric, vintage treasure, keys, buttons, vintage patterns, lots and lots of brand new rubber stamps, Sizzix dies, scrapbooks, beads etc. There will also be cake and tea of course and lots of fun!

We’d love to see you there. Please share this event with your friends.

There will be another one before Christmas. Dates to be confirmed.

James Fox at Bucks County Museum

James fox at BCM

James Fox

James Fox will be doing a spell as Artist in residence at Bucks County Museum from Thursday 21st September until 21st October. An excellent accompaniment to the Beautiful Stitch exhibition.

He will be in his studio there from Thursdays to Saturdays and running a workshop on Saturday 14th October. On 3rd November James will return to deliver his residency talk, hopefully with some of the work he will have done during his stay. Full details are available from the Bucks County Museum site.

Made At Art Van Go – 9th Sep to 29th Oct

Art Van Go have their annual exhibition celebrating and showcasing work made as a result of their workshops. I know it includes work by current and past members of this branch.

It’s always worth checking if there is a workshop on when you intend to visit and remember to take your shopping list!
